more about megan

I’m Megan, an Interior Designer, artist, enthusiastic pumpkin carver, tennis player, and lifelong learner.

With my husband, two teenage kids, and a dog named Tate, I live in vibrant Princeton, NJ.

I became an Interior Designer at the age of 2. Okay, maybe 3. I moved things around to influence behavior and to help people feel safer, more connected, and happier at home. And you know what? From my little kid point of view, it seemed to work. When I cleared a dance floor and threw on a record, people started to dance. When I snuck into my brother’s extra bed on a scary night, we both felt safer and got a better night’s sleep.

I have always known that what people do and how they feel is affected by the spaces around them.

By the time of the 2020 lockdown, I had made a career out of this way of thinking as an NCIDQ certified Interior Designer. I worked for local architecture firms and for Princeton University, doing commercial interior projects, mainly for corporate offices. Then, all of a sudden, no one was ever going back to the corporate office ever again. I finished my slate of office design projects as I sewed masks, wiped down the mail, and helped my kids struggle through “online learning” and complete social isolation.

Slowly, design requests came in from family and friends. I helped a few people re-design their home offices, kid’s rooms, and other living spaces to meet all the old and new demands on their homes.

Utilizing concepts and techniques from commercial interior design, I was able to successfully solve complicated new spatial challenges of work, school, and life within the home.

People were thrilled about what I was able to do for them. They felt seen, supported, comforted, inspired. I had cleared the dance floor, thrown on a record, and people were dancing. At least their homes were functioning better, their kids felt supported, and their Zoom backgrounds were on point ; )

This, I thought, could be a thing.

I would like to say that I had the presence of mind to act on this amazing insight right away, but that would be a big fat lie. It was a slow burn. After a lot of thinking, reading, writing, and “time off” - sleep, tears, Netflix, ice cream, therapy - I got there. I got here. I am here. And I am so glad that you are too.

My Meganfesto:

I believe our #1 purpose is to connect with other people.

I believe that people thrive in environments that suit them.

I believe it’s important to say hello when you walk in, and goodbye when you leave.

I believe having an analog clock gives us a more real and tangible relationship with time.

I believe true interior design is about the bones, not just the skin.

I believe humans are inherently creative.

I believe we tend to overlook the possibilities of vast beauty.

I believe anticipating a guest’s needs is the best way to make them feel welcome.

I believe you are more interesting than you think.

I believe boredom is more important than we think.

I believe speed is less important than we think. There is only one finish line and really no one wants to get to it.

”From start to finish, Megan exceeded my expectations in every way.

She took the time to understand my vision, needs, and personal style and seamlessly integrated them into her design plan.”
